About Joyce Casey

Every artist needs a muse. Mine just happens to have whiskers.

Art has always been a journey of exploration for me. Over the years, that journey has led me through many mediums, including mosaic, fused glass, graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, and pastel. While each medium offers a different creative experience, they all share a common purpose: celebrating the beauty, personality, and spirit of the subjects that inspire me.

Animals and the natural world are at the heart of my work. Whether creating wildlife art, companion animal portraits, equine studies, or custom commissions, I strive to capture more than appearance alone. My goal is to create artwork that reflects character, connection, and the stories that make each subject unique.

Continuing to Learn

I believe that learning is a lifelong part of being an artist. Throughout my artistic journey, I have continued to refine my skills through online workshops and instruction with respected mosaic artists whose generosity and unique approaches have influenced my work.

Rachel Davies inspired my Organic Mosaic collection by encouraging artists to interpret nature rather than simply reproduce it. Her philosophy of observing and interpreting the natural world continues to influence my organic mosaic designs.

The D&H Method expanded my understanding of movement, precision, and mosaic design, influencing works such as Gazing Fox.

Studying with Jolynn Forman introduced me to the use of translucent groutβ€”a technique that transformed the depth, luminosity, and realism of my animal mosaics.

While these artists have influenced my journey, every artwork I create is an original expression of my own observations, experiences, and artistic vision. My hope is that each piece invites viewers to pause, connect with nature, and experience the beauty, personality, and spirit of the animals and landscapes that inspire me.

Through creating, continuing to learn, and teaching others, I hope to encourage people to explore their creativity, connect with the natural world, and find joy in the artistic process.

Teaching Philosophy

Experiment. Be bold. Have fun creating.

Art should be a process of discovery rather than perfection. Whether creating my own work or teaching others, my goal is to foster an encouraging environment where creativity can flourish, confidence can grow, and students feel comfortable exploring their own artistic voice.

Every student brings their own perspective and creativity to the classroom. My role is not to teach people to create artwork exactly like mine, but to provide the techniques, encouragement, and confidence they need to develop their own unique artistic style.

Thank you for visiting my gallery. I hope my artwork brings as much joy to your home as it has brought me in creating it.
